Let them eat cake!

Right smack dab in he middle of April my precious Miss Lou turned one...seriously this is one sweet, ridiculously delicious girl...I mean really, those cheeks & curls are enough to make your heart pitter patter, no?
I'm not gonna lie though...this birthday hit me hard...with Lila I felt such a sense of accomplishment and with Louisa I just felt an overwhelming sense of how fast time is speeding by and that this is the last babe I will be cuddling, nursing, & snuggling with...I was a bit of a mess, girls...
So I made an executive decision to keep the party manageable with a simple, small brunch...but to keep it special I decided the time had come to tackle the craziness known as the Momofuku birthday cake...

it was an all day (and overnight) affair...crumbs, frosting, cake layers, milk soak, freezing...

we raided the party box for streamers & garlands...(oh *^&!, I should have edited out that tacky plastic silverware - oh well, design bloggers look away..)
and tada! The cake turned out beautifully....but...oh, it was SO sweet...oh well! it looked pretty cool right?
okay, off to hang with these girlies...
xoxo, M

  1. well, you could always have just ONE more... ;)

seriously- as usual, i totally know how you feel... good for you for keeping it simple (plastic & all)... and omg- that cake. i awaited each and every instagram update... completely in awe & inspired.

  2. Wow! You are truly a super mom. Lovely party for a lovely girl. xo.

  3. That looks impressive! And really yummy too...

Does Lou walk already? She's so so cute and so is Lila. I'm dreading celebrating our Robin's first in a month's time...this year has really sped past.

  4. Oh goodness that cake!!! Your simple party is 10 times fancier than anything I can whip up. I'm a design bloggers worst nightmare, hehe.

I'm not ready to stop with just two but maybe two will be it. The first month has flown by and elias is huge. I really would be a mess at his birthday if he were the last.

  5. YOU GO GIRL!!! that cake looks AMAZING. Feel good. You are a wonderful mama. Those ladies look lovely.

  6. I didn't even notice the plastic. :)

You did such a great job with the party!

  7. Those cheeks!

Lovely party mama. And that cake...pretty amazing. I was in awe following your instagram

  8. That looks like such a beautiful party! And WOW, yeah, time is going fast for me too, I felt like just yesterday I was reading your pregnancy wardrobe suggestions, and now she's one! Loved the comment about the plastic silverware too, lol, even with that it still looked gorgeous.

And I know what you mean about the cake! For Charley's 2nd birthday this year I wanted to keep it mellow but I made the Magnolia Bakery vanilla cupcake recipe as a whole cake, and wow, it was way too sweet. Like have two bites and feel like your teeth hurt sweet. oh well, here's to cakes that look better in photos! Cheers!

I'm hanging on your every word...let me know what you think!
